AEU Appoints Seattle-Based Steven Ritchie as Managing Director

MOBILE, Ala., May 19, 2025 ~ American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU), the leading provider of workers' compensation insurance for waterfront employers, has announced the appointment of Steven Ritchie as their new Managing Director. This change will take effect on May 1, 2025.

Ritchie brings with him almost thirty years of experience in marine insurance, with a strong focus on workers' compensation for marine construction-related industries. He most recently served as the Director of USL&H and Specialty Construction at Key Risk, a Berkley Group company.

Based in AEU's Seattle office, Ritchie's main responsibilities will include supporting existing customers and insurance brokers while also expanding AEU's presence on the West Coast. His extensive knowledge and expertise in USL&H coverage make him a valuable addition to the team.

Winchester Thurber, Chief Commercial Officer at AEU, expressed his excitement about Ritchie joining the company. "Steven's deep understanding of the complexities surrounding USL&H coverage makes him an outstanding addition to our team," said Thurber. "Having him based in Seattle underscores AEU's ongoing commitment to the West Coast as we expand our presence and enhance the support we provide to maritime employers in the region."
