~ As the summer season approaches, the City of Spokane is gearing up to provide free swim opportunities for its residents. Starting Monday, June 16, 2025, all six of the city's aquatic centers will be open for public use. These include A.M. Cannon, Shadle, Liberty, Witter, Hillyard, and Comstock pools.
To ensure that everyone has access to these facilities, the City has implemented a SplashPass system. Similar to a library card, this pass is required for all ages and provides free admission during open swim hours and family nights. It also serves as a way to receive notifications about pool events and closures.
Obtaining a SplashPass is quick and easy. They can be obtained at any of the six pools during open hours or online at SpokaneParks.org/aquatics. For those who prefer to call in their request, they can dial 311 and press 3 or call 509.755.2489. Additionally, SplashPasses can be obtained in person at City Hall (808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.) from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.

The registration process takes less than five minutes and requires a parent or guardian's signature for children under 18 years old. It should also be noted that if an individual has had a SplashPass in previous years, there is no need to renew it each year as it is completely digital.
Since 2018, the City has been providing free swim at all its pools thanks to funding from the Parks & Recreation fund. This initiative aims to reduce barriers and increase attendance at open swim sessions while also promoting swimming as an important life skill with numerous health benefits.
For those interested in furthering their swimming skills or participating in aquatic fitness programs or novice swim teams, affordable options are available at all six pools. Private lessons are also offered for those seeking more personalized instruction.
In addition to free swim and affordable programs, the City is also offering free swim clinics this summer for children ages 3-15. These clinics are made possible by the Spokane Parks Foundation and will take place on Saturdays in July. Preregistration is required and can be done online.

To add to the summer fun, Providence is sponsoring Neighborhood Pool Parties in partnership with Make a Splash and Spokane Parks & Recreation. These parties will take place at different pool locations throughout the summer, providing a fun and safe environment for families to enjoy.
While concessions are no longer offered at the pools to help cover the cost of free swim, outside food and drinks are welcome inside the pool area. However, alcohol, glass containers, and BBQs are not allowed.
For those looking for a different way to cool off this summer, there are 19 splash pads located throughout the city that offer a variety of amenities. These splash pads are free and open from 9am to 8pm daily. In case of any temporary closures or issues with the splash pads or pools, residents can call the aquatics hotline at 509.625.6960 for updates.
With all these options available, there's no excuse not to take advantage of the City of Spokane's free swim opportunities this summer! For more information on pool hours and programs, visit SpokaneParks.org/aquatics.
