~ Tacoma's Public Works Department's Engineering Division has announced that they will be conducting maintenance on the I-705 Stadium Spur ramps starting August 11, 2025. These ramps, which connect I-705 to Commerce Street and South Stadium Way, will undergo necessary repairs and safety improvements.
The project will include installing a new cement concrete overlay on the ramp decks, replacing ramp deck expansion joints, and completing other essential repairs. The construction will primarily affect the I-705 access ramps to and from Schuster Parkway.
According to the project schedule, the northbound off-ramps from I-705 to Stadium Way and Schuster Parkway are expected to close from August 11 to September 14, 2025. During this time, the off-ramp to Schuster Parkway will be closed for drivers traveling northbound on I-705. Similarly, the southbound ramps from Stadium Way and Schuster Parkway to I-705 are expected to close from September 15 to October 19, 2025. The on-ramp to I-705 from Schuster Parkway will be closed during this period.

To minimize inconvenience for drivers, only one ramp will be closed at a time. The A Street City Center exit and the SR 509 North, South 21st Street, and Port of Tacoma exits will remain open during these closures. Each ramp is estimated to be closed for approximately 35 consecutive days with detours provided. Once construction on one ramp is complete, it will reopen before the closure of the other ramp occurs shortly after.
Detailed detour routes can be found on the project webpage at tacoma.gov/project/Spur-Stadium-Ramps. Additional information is also available at tacoma.gov/Spur-Stadium-Ramps.
The project is weather-dependent, and rescheduling may be necessary. Notice boards will be placed on-site to inform drivers of any changes or updates regarding the project. Drivers are advised to use caution and expect delays when traveling in the area.
For any questions or concerns, community members can contact Project Manager Basel Kitmitto at bkitmitto@cityoftacoma.org or (253) 328-0302. The City of Tacoma encourages residents to stay informed and plan their routes accordingly during the construction period.
