~ The City of Spokane is set to begin three grind and overlay projects next week, as announced by Communications Manager Kirstin Davis. These projects will require motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists to plan ahead and use alternate routes during peak traffic hours in order to minimize the impact on their daily commute. The city is urging everyone to slow down for safety and support local businesses that may be affected by the necessary construction.

The first project, known as the Sprague & Alki-Broadway – Freya to Havana Grind and Overlay, will commence on Monday, July 28 and is expected to continue through November. This project aims to rehabilitate portions of Sprague Avenue and Alki-Broadway Avenue through a grind and overlay process. In addition, ADA ramp upgrades and selected stormwater improvements will also be included in this project, with the goal of extending pavement life and enhancing road safety.

During this project, Broadway Avenue/Alki Way from Havana to Freya Streets will be closed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Sprague Avenue and Trent Avenue. Slower speeds and traffic delays should also be expected in this area. However, businesses in the vicinity will remain accessible and the city is encouraging people to make an extra effort to support them during this time. More information about current obstructions impacting drivers can be found on the city's construction webpage.

The second project, Maple-Walnut Grind & Overlay – 5th Avenue to Maple Street Bridge, will also begin on Monday, July 28 but is expected to last until October. This project focuses on rehabilitating Maple and Walnut Streets from 5th Avenue to the south approach of the Maple Street Bridge. Improvements include a grind and overlay of existing pavement, curb ramp upgrades for ADA compliance, and a sidewalk widening near an overhead traffic sign pole on Maple Street.

During this project, the curb lanes of Maple and Walnut Streets between 2nd and 5th Avenues will be closed. Drivers should anticipate slower speeds and traffic delays in this area. However, businesses will remain accessible and the city is urging people to support them during this time.

Lastly, the Division Grind & Overlay – 4th to 7th Avenues project will begin on Tuesday, July 29 and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, August 6. This project aims to rehabilitate Division Street from 4th to 7th Avenues through a grind and overlay process.

During this project, lane closures can be expected on Division Street between 4th and 7th Avenues. Drivers are advised to anticipate slower speeds and traffic delays in this area. However, businesses will remain accessible and the city is encouraging people to make an extra effort to support them during this time.

The City of Spokane is committed to improving its roads for the safety and convenience of its residents. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during these projects in order to minimize any inconvenience. The city also reminds everyone to slow down for safety and support local businesses impacted by these necessary construction projects.
