SPD Major Crimes Detectives investigating fatal shooting on Spokane’s east side

~ On the evening of October 17th, 2025, a shooting was reported in the area of Mission and Cincinnati. According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg of the Public Information Office, patrol officers from the SPD quickly responded to the scene at 7pm. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound and immediately began administering emergency medical aid.

Despite their efforts, the victim did not survive and was transported to a nearby hospital by medics. Initial information suggests that the individuals involved were acquainted with each other and this was not a random act of violence.

The SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) are currently leading an active investigation into the fatal shooting. They are following up on multiple leads in hopes of finding more information about the incident. However, there is no indication that this incident is connected to any students or staff from Gonzaga campus, which is in close proximity to where it occurred.

Officer Strassenberg stated that additional information will be released as it becomes available. In the meantime, anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233 and reference case number 2025-20214534.
