~ As the new school year begins, the Spokane Police Department is reminding community members to be mindful of school zones. Officer Daniel Strassenberg, from the Public Information Office, emphasized the importance of following traffic laws in these designated areas.

The SPD Traffic Unit has been actively enforcing school zones to ensure the safety of students as they travel to and from school. Recently, officers focused their efforts on Rogers High School, Longfellow Middle School, and Garry Middle School. During this time, multiple traffic stops were made for speeding and cell phone violations.

In addition to these traffic violations, officers also made several arrests for suspended driving and possession of a stolen motorcycle. These actions serve as a reminder that following traffic laws not only keeps students safe but also helps prevent other crimes.

The SPD urges drivers to pay attention to posted speed limits in school zones and be aware of school staff and volunteers who monitor crosswalks. As Officer Strassenberg stated, "It enhances the safety of our students and those who work tirelessly to keep them safe." The department has also provided an image of a school zone sign as a visual reminder for drivers. Let's all do our part in keeping our community's children safe during this new school year.
