~ Spokane Police Department Receives Grant for Mental Health and Wellness Services

The Spokane Police Department has been awarded a $186,250 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services. The grant, provided through the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) program, will fund mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers and their families.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg of the Public Information Office, the grant will support various initiatives such as peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, stress reduction, and clinical support. These services aim to improve the overall well-being of officers and their families.

Police Chief Kevin Hall expressed his gratitude for the grant, stating that it will allow the department to invest in the wellness and mental health of its officers who serve the community every day. The LEMHWA grant will specifically fund Struggle Well classes as well as training on nutrition, sleep, stress reduction and mindfulness, and financial wellness.

The department recognizes that in order to effectively serve their community, officers must also take care of themselves. With this grant, they hope to prioritize the mental health and well-being of their officers.
