Spokane Police Officer involved in shooting Sunday afternoon during arrest of subject wanted on felony warrants

~ Spokane, WA- On February 9th, 2025, Spokane Police Officers responded to community member complaints of criminal activity in the area of 3300 East 11th Avenue. The officers were conducting a patrol emphasis in the area when they contacted an occupied vehicle in a parking lot. A records check revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle had outstanding felony warrants.

As officers attempted to arrest the wanted subject inside the vehicle, a struggle ensued as the suspect failed to comply with officer commands. The situation escalated when officers put out radio traffic that the male was armed with a gun. In response to this threat, one of the officers discharged their duty weapon and struck the suspect.

The suspect was safely detained and officers provided emergency medical care until medics arrived. He was then transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Preliminary information suggests that the suspect was indeed armed with a gun at the time of his arrest.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg from the Public Information Office, there are no outstanding suspects at this time and no threat to public safety in relation to this incident. As per WAC 139-12, Spokane Police Department personnel will not be involved in this investigation.

The case will be managed by the Washington State Patrol's SIIR Team and all future communications will be sent through them. The name of the involved officer will be released at a later date by Spokane Police Department.

Once the SIIR Team completes their investigation, it will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review. The department assures that they will provide updates on this incident as more information becomes available.
