~ As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, the city of Tacoma is gearing up for its 24th annual Arts Month celebration. This month-long event, which takes place every October, is a community-wide celebration of the arts that includes a diverse range of events and activities for all ages.
From music and dance performances to visual art exhibits and workshops, there is something for everyone to enjoy during Tacoma Arts Month. The programming includes interactive experiences, film screenings, literary readings, lectures, cultural events, and workshops. All events are open to the public and many are free of charge.
One of the signature events of Tacoma Arts Month is the Kaleidoscope Opening Party. The lineup includes selections from Tacoma Little Theatre's summer camp productions, music and movement with Capoeira Vida, a dance performance by Khmer Language Arts & Culture Academy, poetry blended with R&B and hip hop from Tacoma Poet Laureate Mari Griffin, a hip hop set and cypher with A.G. Joints, and a ukulele circle with Clover, George & Joe! In addition to these performances, there will be hands-on activities throughout the afternoon such as printmaking with Write253 and crafting monsters with Remakery.
