~ The Tacoma City Council is seeking to fill two volunteer positions on the Commission on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, according to a press release from the city's media contact, Vicky McLaurin. The positions available are one alternate position and one youth or young adult position.
The Commission on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs was established with the goal of engaging Tacoma's immigrant and refugee communities and working with community partners and staff to identify and promote positive outcomes for these communities. The commission is made up of 13 members, including one youth or young adult under the age of 25. Each member serves a three-year term, unless they are filling an unexpired term.
In order to be considered for these volunteer positions, applicants must have experience or expertise in immigrant issues and demonstrate a commitment to all immigrant and refugee communities. The City of Tacoma is dedicated to promoting equity and anti-racism within its organization, and encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds such as BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, seniors, youth/young people, veterans, immigrants, and refugees to apply.

Those who are appointed will be required to complete trainings on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. These trainings will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
