~ Spokane Launches New Webpage and Notice Document to Help Residents Facing Housing Instability
The City of Spokane has taken a proactive step towards addressing housing instability by launching a new webpage and notice document. The Housing and Human Services Department (HHS) has created these resources to provide quick access to eviction prevention services for residents in need.
According to Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the City of Spokane, the new webpage, which is hosted on the City's website, serves as a centralized location for both tenants and landlords seeking information about available resources. These include information about tenant rights and responsibilities, rental assistance resources, connections to free legal assistance, and contact information for the Eviction Defense Screening Line, nonprofit organizations, and community support.
The accompanying notice document shares the same information and is available to landlords who want to provide resources to their tenants. It will soon be translated into multiple languages and made available on the City's website.

Mayor Lisa Brown expressed her support for this initiative, stating that the city has placed a strong focus on eviction prevention which has resulted in fewer people entering the homeless system. She emphasized the importance of connecting people with support before they reach a crisis point. "At the same time," she added, "we have to make sure people know these resources exist and understand how to access them when they need help."
Dawn Kinder, Director of Housing and Human Services, also highlighted the significance of making information accessible in preventing displacement. "By bringing these resources together in one place and making them easily available," she said, "we can better support our community members during times of uncertainty."
Council Member Paul Dillon expressed his gratitude towards Mayor Brown's administration and the CHHS team for their efforts in implementing this critical policy. He believes that this program is a win-win for both tenants and landlords as it addresses increased housing insecurity amidst an affordability crisis.
The City of Spokane's new webpage and notice document are crucial steps towards providing support and resources to residents facing housing instability.
