~ As the excitement builds for the upcoming FIFA events in Spokane, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of players, fans, residents, and visitors. Officer T. Leming, Public Information Officer for SPD, announced that the department will be working closely with partners to provide security for all events surrounding FIFA and Team Egypt.
Community safety remains a top priority for SPD as they prepare for a busy and thrilling summer of FIFA-related activities. Through careful planning, coordination, and presence at key venues and gathering spaces, SPD is committed to creating a safe environment where everyone can celebrate and enjoy the festivities.
In light of this commitment to safety, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has updated its restricted airspace regulations for the Spokane area. This includes a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) that will encompass Gonzaga University and its surrounding area 24/7 from June 1st to July 20th.

During this time, SPD will be operating drones within the restricted airspace with permission from the FAA. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of both the community and Team Egypt. Additionally, SPD and its partners will be utilizing drone detection equipment in the area during this timeframe.
It is important for members of the community to note that any unauthorized drone activity within this restricted airspace may result in local or federal civil and/or criminal penalties. To maintain a safe space for flight operations and FIFA events, residents are asked to refrain from flying drones in the area during this time.
Officer Leming emphasizes that safe drone operation is crucial for community safety during this busy time. He encourages everyone to do their part by following all regulations and guidelines set forth by FAA.
For further questions or guidance regarding TFR coordination and information, individuals can contact FAA's Special Events Contact at 540-422-4034 or review current restrictions on their website. The FAA has also provided helpful graphics such as the "No Drone Zone" and a map of the TFR in Spokane to assist with compliance.
As Spokane prepares to welcome FIFA and Team Egypt, the SPD is dedicated to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. By working closely with partners and utilizing drone technology, they are confident that this summer's events will be a success.
