SYDNEY - Washingtoner -- The NRE Health Institute has announced the launch of the Non-Sexual Nudity Motivations Study (NSNMS), a new international research initiative examining why people support, oppose, follow, consume, discuss, or participate in non-sexual nudity.

The study explores attitudes, motivations, perceptions, experiences, concerns, and behavioural factors relating to non-sexual nudity across a broad range of contexts, including naturism, nudism, social nudity, clothing-optional environments, educational nudity, artistic nudity, body-positive activities, and public discussions surrounding non-sexual nudity.

Unlike many previous studies that focus primarily on participants within naturist communities, NSNMS welcomes responses from supporters, critics, non-participants, former participants, and members of the general public.
"The goal is not to promote a particular viewpoint," said Vincent Marty, Founder of the NRE Health Institute and Founder of NaturismRE.

"The goal is to better understand why people hold the views they do, what influences those views, and how perceptions of non-sexual nudity differ across cultures, generations, and societies."

The study is fully anonymous and takes approximately five to seven minutes to complete.

Participation is open to adults aged 18 years and over worldwide.

The launch follows the success of the Standardised Stigma Measure (SSMâ„¢), an ongoing international research initiative examining attitudes toward naturism and non-sexual nudity, which has generated more than 140,000 responses to survey questions across multiple countries and languages.

Preliminary findings from the SSMâ„¢ study are scheduled to be released publicly in early July 2026, providing one of the largest publicly available datasets examining attitudes toward naturism and non-sexual nudity.

Early participation in NSNMS has already been received from multiple countries, reflecting growing international interest in evidence-based research surrounding body image, social attitudes, public perception, and non-sexual nudity.

Areas being examined include:
  • Personal attitudes toward non-sexual nudity
  • Exposure to naturist and nudist content
  • Sources of information and influence
  • Social perceptions and stigma
  • Motivations for participation or non-participation
  • Public acceptance and cultural factors
  • Future perspectives regarding non-sexual nudity

The NRE Health Institute intends to publish periodic summaries and observations as the dataset grows, while emphasising that early findings should not be interpreted as representative conclusions until larger sample sizes are reached.
