~ On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Chief of Police Avery Moore submitted his letter of resignation to City Manager Elizabeth Pauli, marking the end of his tenure as the head of the Tacoma Police Department. The resignation will be effective on February 3, 2025.

After 35 years in law enforcement, Chief Moore has made the heartfelt decision to step away from his position and move on to the next chapter of his life. In a statement released by Maria Lee, Media and Communications representative for the City of Tacoma, Chief Moore reflected on his journey and expressed immense pride in his illustrious career.

Throughout his time in law enforcement, Chief Moore has been dedicated to serving and protecting his community. He has been a leader in promoting trust and legitimacy within the community and strengthening engagement with its residents. During his three years as Chief in Tacoma, he focused on reducing overall crime and achieving meaningful progress towards these goals.

Chief Moore expressed gratitude for the collaboration and support of the Tacoma community during his time as Chief. He stated that it had been an honor and privilege to serve such a vibrant city and its extraordinary residents.

In particular, he thanked the men and women of the Tacoma Police Department for their unwavering dedication and professionalism. He commended them for their commitment to excellence and service, stating that he leaves knowing that the department is in capable hands.

To the people of Tacoma, Chief Moore expressed his deepest gratitude for allowing him to serve as their Chief of Police. He stated that he was humbled by their trust in him and would forever cherish the relationships and memories forged during his time in Tacoma. While he may be stepping away from law enforcement, he assured them that his commitment to this community's success will remain steadfast.

In conclusion, Chief Avery Moore thanked Tacoma for allowing him to be a part of their journey. He stated that it had been an honor beyond measure to serve as their Chief of Police and expressed his best wishes for the city's future.
