~ Tacoma, Washington - On December 7, 2024, Deputy Mayor John Hines will be hosting a town hall event at the Eliseo Senior Living Main Campus. The event, titled "Senior Summit," will focus on senior issues and aging in place in Tacoma. All members of the community are invited to attend and share their input and perspectives with Deputy Mayor Hines.
According to Deputy Mayor Hines, Tacoma is an aging city and it is projected that residents over the age of 50 will soon outnumber those under the age of five. This demographic shift presents both challenges and opportunities for the city to create a community where aging is celebrated as an asset.
"The goal of this event is to continue a collaborative conversation with our seniors and share information about the many resources we have available to assist them," said Deputy Mayor Hines. "We will also revisit the City of Tacoma's Age-Friendly City Action Plan, adopted in 2021, and gather community input on any updates or changes that may be needed moving forward. I am excited for this conversation and believe that the perspectives and issues shared by attendees will help inform my policy decisions."

The town hall event will take place from 10 AM to noon and there is no cost for attendance. Refreshments will also be provided at no cost to event attendees. In addition, several local agencies will have booths set up to share information about available services and answer any questions from the community.
The City of Tacoma strives to host inclusive and accessible events that allow all individuals, including those with disabilities, to fully engage. Community members who require specific accommodations or have questions about the event can contact Council Policy Analyst Christina Caan at ccaan@cityoftacoma.org or (253) 219-0679.
This town hall serves as an opportunity for Deputy Mayor Hines to gather valuable insights from seniors in Tacoma and work towards creating a more age-friendly city. All are encouraged to attend and be a part of this important conversation.
