~ The Parking Technical Advisory Group (PTAG) in Tacoma, Washington is currently seeking applicants to fill three vacant positions. The group, which reviews current parking policies and their impact on transportation users, is looking for individuals who are active users of Tacoma's transportation system. The appointed members will serve a two-year term from December 2023 to December 2025.
According to PTAG Co-Chair Steph Farber, the downtown parking system is still adjusting to the "new normal" of post-pandemic life. As such, there is much to be learned about the evolving needs of transportation users and what policies and technologies are needed to improve their access and enhance the quality of life in the community.
The mission of PTAG is to provide informed and fair recommendations to the City Manager on managing the City's parking resources. These recommendations are based on data from multiple community sources and aim to efficiently and effectively manage limited parking resources.

In order to ensure diverse perspectives in their recommendations, PTAG actively seeks input from community stakeholders, independent business owners, and representatives from entities that generate large numbers of transportation users. For these three vacant positions, individuals from BIPOC and LGBTQ communities, individuals with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees are especially encouraged to apply.
PTAG meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month from 4:10 PM to 6:10 PM. However, there are no meetings in January or July. Meetings are conducted in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual options available for attendance.
Applicants who are appointed must complete trainings on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. These trainings will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
Interested individuals can find more information about PTAG on their website. The application form can also be found online here. All applications must be submitted by 5 PM on February 22, 2024 to Rachel Barra or parking@cityoftacoma.org. The PTAG chair and co-chair will review the applications and conduct interviews with the most qualified candidates before making recommendations to the City Manager.
