These awards recognize outstanding contributions to the city in various categories, including Adult and Youth Leadership, Lifetime Service, Youth Service, Environmental Sustainability, Disability Advocacy, Economic Development, and Equity & Empowerment. Each year, the ceremony celebrates the remarkable efforts of individuals and groups who have made a lasting impact on the community.
In 2025, the City of Destiny Awards honored 11 individuals and one group for their volunteerism, leadership, and service. The ceremony also marked the second year of the Inspire Tacoma award, which recognizes an individual who has contributed to the city's growth and prosperity through civic engagement, entrepreneurship, philanthropy or advocacy. Previous recipients include Jason Kinlow in 2025 and Isaiah Thomas in 2024. Since its inception over three decades ago, more than 340 individuals and groups have been recognized for their commitment to improving life in Tacoma.
