~ As the 2024 construction season continues, drivers in the City of Spokane are being urged to plan ahead and prepare for detours and alternate routes. The city's construction webpage provides current information on obstructions that may impact travel.

One major area of concern is the Washington/Stevens Corridor, where work is ongoing. Starting Monday, August 5th, both Washington St. and Stevens St. will be closed in both directions between North River Drive and Spokane Falls Blvd. This closure is expected to last for approximately four weeks.

To navigate around this closure, motorists can use alternate north-south arterials such as Division St./Ruby St., Monroe St./Lincoln St., or Maple St./Ash St. The southbound detour will remain in place at North River Drive and Washington St., while the northbound detour will be in place at Spokane Falls Blvd. and Washington St.

However, access to professional, hospitality, and healthcare businesses along North River Drive will still be available, as well as access to Riverfront Park.

In addition to the Washington/Stevens Corridor closure, drivers should also be aware of other ongoing projects that may impact their commute. East Lincoln Rd. between north Division St. and north Nevada St. is currently undergoing work between Division St. and Standard St., with a grind and overlay project set to begin on Monday, August 5th between Standard St. and Nevada St.

This grind and overlay project is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete and will result in lane reductions in both directions of Lincoln Rd., as well as reduced speeds and congestion.

The Thor-Freya Corridor is also experiencing traffic revisions at the intersections of 2nd Ave. and 3rd Ave., with new changes set to take effect on Wednesday for northbound Freya St. at 3rd Ave.

Southbound Freya St. will be reduced to one lane at 3rd Ave., and 3rd Ave. between Thor St. and Freya St. will remain closed. The eastbound I-90 Exit 283B Thor/Freya off-ramp will also remain closed.

Drivers should also be aware of traffic revision work on North Ash St. between Dean Ave. and Broadway Ave., starting on Monday, August 5th. This section of Ash St. will be reconfigured to a two-way street to allow access to the Maple St. Bridge on-ramp from Broadway Ave.

During this time, north Ash St. will be fully closed, with southbound drivers being detoured at Boone Ave. However, access to the Maple St. Bridge southbound on-ramp will still be available.

Finally, on Tuesday, August 6th, the Street Department will be inspecting the Hatch Road Bridge at US 195, resulting in alternating lane closures and flaggers on-site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drivers are reminded to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses impacted by these necessary construction projects.
