~ On May 7th, 2025 at 12:28pm, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) received a report of a fire in the 500 block of East North Avenue. According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, Public Information Officer for SPD, the initial call to 911 stated that a tree was on fire.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a shed and a tall pine tree fully engulfed in flames, as well as a nearby fence. The fire also began to spread embers into the yards of neighboring homes, causing smaller grass fires. The Spokane Fire Department quickly responded and was able to extinguish all fires.

After conferring with on-scene Fire Investigators, it was determined that the fire had been deliberately set. Witnesses were interviewed by officers and it was discovered that a vehicle had been seen leaving the alley just before the fire started. The driver of the vehicle was described as a female, which was confirmed by footage from a nearby security camera.
