RICHMOND, Va., May 6, 2025 ~ As summer approaches, American travelers are eagerly planning their vacations and according to the latest report from Allianz Partners USA, Seattle and Cancun are the top destinations for those looking to get away. The report, which analyzed data from the company's Top Summer Travel Destinations Report, also revealed that most travelers are opting to stay within the United States this summer.
With 71% of itineraries booked for domestic destinations and 29% for international trips, it is clear that Americans are choosing to explore their own country this summer. "American travelers are starting to dethaw from a long winter and are flocking to sunny beaches across the U.S. and abroad," says Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA.
The allure of Hawaii's beautiful beaches has made it a top destination for U.S. travelers, with Honolulu ranking at #4 and Kahului at #5 on the list of domestic destinations. Other popular cities include Orlando (#2), New York (#3), Boston (#6), Portland (#7), Las Vegas (#8), Los Angeles (#9) and Anchorage (#10).

But it's not just domestic travel that is on the rise. Similar to Spring Break travel trends, Mexico continues to be a hot spot for international travel with three cities making it into the top ten list. Cancun takes the top spot, followed by San José del Cabo at #2 and Puerto Vallarta at #9. Other popular international destinations include London (#3), Punta Cana (#4), Montego Bay (#5), Calgary (#6), Paris (#8) and Dublin, Ireland (#10).
Durazo emphasizes the importance of having travel insurance during these trips. "Summer travel is often the highlight of travelers' year with everyone excited for some well-deserved time away," he says. "No one wants an unexpected challenge to take away from that excitement – that's why it's critical to have travel insurance."
Allianz Partners offers travel insurance through various channels, including major U.S. airlines, travel agents, online travel agencies, hotel companies, and cruise lines. They also offer policies directly to consumers. This insurance provides coverage for unexpected trip cancellations, delays, medical emergencies, and lost or delayed baggage.
