~ Spokane, WA- On Tuesday evening, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a possible murder suspect loitering outside the Cannon Street Shelter. The complainant stated that the suspect was armed and had expressed a desire for officers to "take him out." The SPD immediately responded to the call, with patrol officers and members of multiple specialty units including SWAT, the Special Investigations Unit, Hostage Negotiation Unit, and Arial Support Unit.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a vehicle matching the description provided by the complainant. As law enforcement approached, the vehicle attempted to flee but was stopped by SPD. The male passenger and a female occupant both exited the vehicle while it was still in motion and attempted to escape on foot. After a brief pursuit and search using drones and officers on foot, both individuals were found hiding in nearby backyards.

The male suspect was identified as 34-year-old Coby C Adams, an armed career criminal with multiple felony convictions. Although he was not the murder suspect initially reported, Adams fit the description given by police and had face tattoos similar to those of the wanted individual. Upon searching his backpack, officers discovered two handguns. Adams was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree.

The female occupant of the vehicle was not charged with any crime. The SPD would like to thank the community member who alerted them to this situation. While it did not result in the arrest of the intended murder suspect, it did lead to taking an armed criminal off the streets.

Lt. Terry Preuninger, PIO for SPD commended their swift response and collaboration between different units within their department. He also emphasized how important it is for community members to report suspicious activity or individuals in order to keep their neighborhoods safe.

This incident serves as a reminder of how crucial it is for law enforcement and the community to work together in preventing and solving crimes. The SPD encourages anyone with information on criminal activity to come forward and report it. Together, we can make our city a safer place for all.
