SPOKANE ~ The City of Spokane Parks & Recreation has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) to repair broken play equipment at 16 parks. The grant is part of the RCO's first Local Parks Maintenance grant program and will be used to repair 43 pieces of damaged equipment such as slides and swings.

Garrett Jones, Interim City Administrator, said that this grant award affirms the need to improve neighborhood playgrounds, which was identified as a tier 1 priority in the City's Master Plan. He added that they are hoping to bring a proposed investment package for voters to consider in February that would fund additional neighborhood park investments in playgrounds, restrooms, sport courts, and safety.

Cannon, B.A. Clark, Corbin, Dutch Jake's, Emerson, Fairview, Franklin, Friendship Hill n' Dale Kehoe Loma Vista Loren Kondo Minnehaha Mission Thornton Murphy Underhill. All these locations are situated in social and environmental equity zones and were identified as being in highest need for repair.
