Spokane: National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

~ Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has announced that all flags at City facilities will be lowered on Sunday, Dec. 7, in accordance with Governor Bob Ferguson's directive for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This decision was made in honor of the Americans who lost their lives or were injured during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

According to Erin Hut, Communications Director for the city, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day was established in 1994 as a way to pay tribute to those affected by the tragic event. Mayor Brown is encouraging all residents and businesses with flags to also lower them as a sign of respect.

The flags will be lowered to half-staff at the end of business on Friday, Dec. 5 and will remain at half-staff until Monday morning, Dec. 8. This gesture serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Americans during the Pearl Harbor attack and honors their memory.
