~ Spokane, WA - As the city of Spokane continues with its planned construction projects, motorists are advised to be aware of utility repairs that will impact high-traffic areas this week. The City's Communications Manager, Kirstin Davis, urges drivers to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be on the lookout for detour changes. She also reminds drivers to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses affected by the necessary projects.

According to the City's construction webpage, there will be several obstructions impacting drivers in the city this week. One of these obstructions will be on 57th Ave., where a leaking water main on the south hill is being fixed by the City of Spokane Water Department. Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10th, eastbound traffic on 57th Ave. will be moved to the center lane between Rebecca St. and Palouse Highway. The street is expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m. Although this street location is outside city limits, the water main is part of the City's water system.

Drivers can expect slowdowns for both east and westbound traffic on 57th Ave. throughout the day. This area is near Moran Prairie Elementary School and the STA Moran Station Park and Ride, so drivers are encouraged to allow for extra time when traveling through this area.

In addition, three intersections along Washington St., between Maxwell Ave. and North River Dr., will be closed for east and west travel due to a grind and overlay project starting early in the morning on Wednesday, September 11th. The intersections of Maxwell/Mission Ave., Boone Ave., and North River Dr. will all be closed for paving while Washington St. is reduced to one lane in each direction.

Drivers who need to access this area are advised to use alternate routes such as Indiana Ave. or Spokane Falls Blvd., as they will not be able to travel east or west on Washington St. during this time. Those who do not have specific needs in the area are encouraged to use alternate arterial routes like Division St. and Monroe St.

Furthermore, Francis Ave. will also experience obstructions as it is reduced to one lane in each direction between Belt St. and Elm St. near the 5-Mile shopping center for a sewer station repair. Flaggers will be present and traffic controls will be in place starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 12th until the work is completed.

Drivers can expect significant slowdowns for both east and westbound traffic on Francis Ave., as well as the closure of the center turn-lane between Belt St. and Elm St. Drivers are advised to use alternate east and west arterial routes if possible.

The City of Spokane apologizes for any inconvenience these obstructions may cause and thanks drivers for their patience and understanding during these necessary projects.
