~ Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered all flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, November 7th, in honor of Lieutenant Commander Lyndsay Evans and Lieutenant Serena Wileman. This directive follows Governor Jay Inslee's order for all state and U.S. flags at state agency facilities to be lowered as well.
According to Communications Director Erin Hut, Mayor Brown expressed her condolences and sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman. She also encouraged those with flags outside their homes or businesses to join in this recognition and honor the memory of the two fallen officers.

The tragic incident occurred during a training flight near Mount Rainier on October 15th, 2024. Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman had recently returned from a nine-month deployment with The Zappers as part of Carrier Air Wing Three aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The City of Spokane joins in mourning the loss of these brave individuals and pays tribute to their service and sacrifice for their country.
