~ Spokane City Council is set to appoint members of the community to pro and con committees for a proposed community safety ballot measure this month. The measure, which aims to increase the sales and use tax rate by 0.1%, will be put to a vote by the citizens of Spokane.
According to state law, pro and con committees are required whenever a tax measure is placed on the ballot. These committees will be responsible for preparing arguments in favor of and against the ballot measure, as well as rebuttal statements. This is in accordance with SMC 01.07.010 and Spokane County's Administrative Rules.

Interested community members who wish to serve on these committees can contact City Council Office Director Giacobbe Byrd (gbyrd@spokanecity.org) by July 17, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Byrd, who oversees the City Council Office, encourages individuals to get involved in this important decision that will impact the community's safety operations.
