~ Spokane, WA - The City of Spokane is gearing up for a month-long celebration of Earth Day, with various departments organizing and participating in activities to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote action to protect the planet. According to Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the city, this initiative aims to involve the community in efforts towards environmental stewardship.
The City has compiled a list of opportunities and resources for citizens to get involved in through various departments such as Spokane Public Library, City Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Planning Services, and Office of Neighborhood Services. These include volunteer opportunities, water conservation events, clean-up initiatives, educational activities, and more.

Mayor Lisa Brown expressed her appreciation for the city's efforts in protecting the environment through its daily operations and providing resources for the community. She emphasized that Earth Day serves as a reminder of the crucial role each individual plays in preserving our planet.
The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22nd, 1970. Its success led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency by December of that year. Over the past 50 years, this movement has brought about significant changes in our environmental history such as the Clean Air Act, lead-based paint restrictions, banning dangerous chemical pesticides, the Clean Water Act, and the Energy Star Program.
As we honor Earth Day this month and throughout the year, let us remember our responsibility towards protecting our planet for future generations.
