~ The Tacoma Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing on May 21 to discuss proposed code amendments for the South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District (STGPD) and Tacoma Municipal Code (TMC) Title 13. The meeting will take place at the Tacoma Municipal Building Council Chambers, located at 747 Market St., 1st Floor, and will begin no earlier than 6 p.m. The hearing will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person attendance and virtual participation through Zoom or by calling (253) 215-8782 and entering the meeting ID: 844 1662 4153.
The STGPD is an overlay zoning and regulatory district that was established to protect the South Tacoma aquifer by regulating high impact uses, hazardous material handling, and stormwater infiltration within its boundaries. As required by the State Growth Management Act and in accordance with City Council guidance, the City code is currently under review to determine if any adjustments are necessary to further safeguard the South Tacoma aquifer system.

To provide community members with more information about the project and proposed code updates, an informational meeting will be held on May 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. at STAR Center (3873 S. 66th St., Tacoma, WA 98409). This meeting will also cover how to submit comments during the public hearing comment period.
Written comments can be submitted to the Planning Department at planning@cityoftacoma.org or to the Tacoma Planning Commission at 747 Market Street, Room 345, Tacoma, WA 98402 by May 23 at 5 p.m. The Planning Commission will use these comments to finalize their recommendations to the City Council.
