Garth is a photojournalist whose stories and photos have appeared in Northwest magazines. She shoots with a Sony Alpha 7 camera, but conceded that having a photographer's "eye" is all-important.

The international awards are coordinated through the Lucie Foundation, which promotes photography appreciation while encouraging top-level and emerging photographers. It has a gallery called House of Lucie in Los Angeles.

All Garth's work was judged in the professional division. One award-winning people-feature was her tribute to the efforts of oyster fishermen to keep Willapa Bay in excellent ecological shape, which she described as preserving traditions pioneered by the earliest inhabitants, who included the Willapa, Chinook and Lower Chehalis tribes.
