~ Tacoma, Wash. - The City of Tacoma is gearing up for the launch of its new and improved website, which will feature a modernized design and a new domain name. The project, set to launch on April 30, 2025, aims to enhance user experience, accessibility, and security.

According to Maria Lee, the Media & Communications representative for the city, the current website, cityoftacoma.org, has been a crucial tool in connecting residents, businesses, and visitors with important services and information since its establishment in 2013. However, a recent assessment in 2023 revealed the need for updates to meet modern standards of service delivery and user-centric design.

The revamped tacoma.gov website will include several improvements such as enhanced navigation and a modernized interface for a better user experience. It will also be mobile-friendly to promote accessibility on all devices. Additionally, the content will be updated regularly to provide current and relevant information about city services and initiatives.

One of the key changes is the website's compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. This ensures that all users can access the website easily.

The transition to the .gov domain also highlights Tacoma's commitment to cybersecurity and public trust. This change will take place shortly after the launch of the Website Modernization Project on May 9. All City email addresses using @cityoftacoma.org will be changed to @tacoma.gov for both General Government employees and Tacoma Public Utilities employees.

To ensure a smooth transition for users, emails sent to both old and new addresses will reach their intended recipients. More information about these changes can be found on cityoftacoma.org/WebRedesign along with FAQs and an opportunity to provide feedback.

After the anticipated launch date of April 30, 2025, existing cityoftacoma.org URLs will automatically redirect users to the new website to minimize any disruption. The City of Tacoma is excited to provide a more user-friendly and accessible website for its community.
