~ The City of Tacoma has announced a new partnership with Crown Castle, the largest provider of shared communications infrastructure in the nation. This collaboration aims to pilot an innovative method of installing fiber that is expected to be safer, faster, and more environmentally friendly than traditional methods.
The process involves using a small crew to simultaneously cut, place, and seal underground fiber without disrupting traffic. This means that installation can take place without shutting down roads, making it a more convenient option for both residents and businesses. Additionally, the fiber utility is registered with 811, allowing for easy removal upon notification.
The pilot project will take place in two locations: North 7th Street and Cushman Avenue, as well as North Carr Street and Tacoma Avenue. Mayor Victoria Woodards expressed her excitement about this new technology and its potential to bring faster and more sustainable internet service to Tacoma residents.
