~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill three open positions on the Tacoma Creates Advisory Board. The board, which advises the Tacoma Creates Administration on funding programs, is responsible for guiding program development and approving funding recommendations for the benefit of all residents of Tacoma.

According to Lisa Jaret, Staff Liaison for the City of Tacoma, there is one seat available based on City Council District and two seats available based on personal/professional experience. The seat based on City Council District is open to any person residing in District Number 5, while the two seats based on personal/professional experience are open to any person residing in Tacoma with professional expertise in either community engagement or culture.

These volunteer positions are three-year terms for Tacoma residents who have interest in and familiarity with public programming in arts, culture, heritage, and/or science. Additionally, applicants should have an interest in promoting equity, access, and programs that provide public benefit for residents across Tacoma.

However, those who are affiliated with a cultural organization as a volunteer may apply to serve on the board but will be required to recuse themselves from any vote that impacts their affiliated organization.

The Advisory Board holds its public meetings on the first Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Regular attendance at these monthly meetings is required as they generally last two hours. Currently, meetings are held both in person at the Tacoma Municipal Building and virtually via Zoom.
