~ The Tacoma Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing on August 20, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the Draft Critical Areas Ordinance Update to Tacoma Municipal Code Title 13.11. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual options available for attendance.
Community members are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on August 7, 2025 at 6 p.m. to learn more about the proposed code updates and how to provide comments during the public hearing comment period. The meeting can be accessed through Zoom or by calling (253) 215-8782 and entering the meeting ID: 850 4843 8072.
Written comments can also be submitted by community members to the Planning Department at planning@tacoma.gov or by mail to the Tacoma Planning Commission at 747 Market Street, Room 345, Tacoma, WA 98402 until August 22, 2025 at 5 p.m. These comments will be considered by the Planning Commission when finalizing their recommendations to the City Council.

The purpose of this public hearing is to review and update the Critical Areas Ordinance in accordance with state law. Critical Areas include wetlands, streams, fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, critical aquifer recharge areas, geologically hazardous areas and flood hazard areas. It is required by state law for cities and counties to periodically review and update their Critical Areas ordinances to ensure they comply with updated state and federal policies and are based on best available science.

The Planning Commission will carefully consider all input received during the public comment period before finalizing their recommendations to the City Council.
