Tacoma City Manager Appoints Patti Jackson as Interim Police Chief

~ Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli has announced the appointment of Patti Jackson as the interim Police Chief, effective February 24, 2025. With over 35 years of law enforcement experience, including extensive leadership roles at the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Jackson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position.

In a statement, City Manager Pauli emphasized the importance of protecting citizens with compassion, equity, accountability, and trust. She expressed confidence in Jackson's ability to lead the Tacoma Police Department through this transition and provide a thorough and objective assessment at all levels.

Currently serving as the Basic Law Enforcement Academy Corrections Commander at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, Jackson is eager to begin her work with the Tacoma Police Department. She acknowledged the department's success in lowering violent crime levels and building strong community relationships in recent years and looks forward to continuing this progress while also prioritizing public safety.

Jackson also highlighted her commitment to building trust amongst the department's employees, both sworn and civilian. She recognizes that their support and guidance will be crucial in moving the department and city forward safely.

Throughout her career, Jackson has prioritized strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community. She has also gained experience in negotiating union contracts, preparing budgets, and mentoring colleagues into leadership positions. Her dedication to holding those who break the law accountable while showing empathy for those experiencing homelessness, addiction challenges, and mental health troubles has been consistently demonstrated.

Jackson will serve as interim Police Chief until a permanent replacement is identified by City Manager Pauli and confirmed by City Council. The recruitment process for this position will begin next month with valuable input sought from the community.
