~ The City of Tacoma is partnering with JCW & Associates to implement a Community Trauma Response Team (CTRT) in the city. This was announced at the Tacoma City Council Meeting on March 21, and will be recognized with a proclamation.
Mayor Victoria Woodards expressed her excitement for the program, thanking those who have persistently demanded a community-level response in times of crisis, as well as members of the Community Police Advisory Committee for their dedication to seeing this work through.
JCW & Associates has experience through their work, Tacoma Cease Fire, which has been working with Tacoma communities since 2019. Their team has over 30 years of experience in trauma response and specialize in violence abatement, reduction and awareness, community mobilization, conflict mediation, teenage prostitution, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, advocacy and ministry.

The CTRT will respond to crisis after a traumatic incident to assist the community in healing and provide a safe place for them to express their opinions and concerns. They will also support and give referrals designed to offer immediate, compassionate and practical resources for community members impacted by trauma or serious loss. The team will focus on the emotional needs of the community while TPD and TFD focus on incident response.
The team will consist of 15-20 culturally relevant community advocates who sign up for weekly call time and complete an initial crisis response training that is identified by the respondent program. They must also successfully complete a background check and participate in ongoing monthly supervision and training.
Those interested in volunteering or learning more can contact apply@jcwandassociates.com. The proclamation can be watched in-person at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market Street), on ZOOM or streamed on TV Tacoma or Facebook.
