MERCER ISLAND, Wash. - Washingtoner -- Swoop and the City of Mercer Island are proud to announce the launch of an innovative electric shuttle program aimed at creating greener, more sustainable commuting options for employees on Mercer Island. Beginning April 1st, this groundbreaking initiative leverages electric vehicles to transform the final leg of employee commutes, significantly reducing carbon emissions and inspiring behavioral shifts toward shared transportation.
Pioneering Sustainable Transportation
Aligned closely with Earth Day initiatives, this first-of-its-kind program utilizes electric vans to seamlessly connect commuters with their final destinations. Riot Games is the largest employer on Mercer Island and the first to embrace this innovative commuting solution, underscoring the growing interest among businesses in reducing their environmental footprint.

In April 2023, the City of Mercer Island adopted its first Climate Action Plan to strategically guide its planning and investments in meeting emissions and resiliency goals. With Transportation being the largest contributor to city-wide emissions, it presents a great opportunity for community engagement in emissions reductions.
Alanna DeRogatis, the City's Sustainability Program Manager stated, "this program fits nicely into our Climate Action Plan implementation work and offers an opportunity for us to gather valuable insights for exploring future long-term transit solutions on the Island."
Setting a New Standard for Corporate Commutes
Pete Evenson, Co-Founder of Swoop, stated, "This is a model for the future of employee transportation—clean, efficient, and intentional. We're expanding our electric vehicle commute programs because they align perfectly with the direction many companies and cities are heading. We're proud to partner with the City of Mercer Island and Riot Games to launch a program that could redefine corporate mobility."
