~ As the wildfire season approaches, the City of Spokane is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its residents. On Saturday, April 25, the city, along with regional partners and neighborhood leaders, will conduct a wildfire evacuation drill in the Latah/Hangman neighborhood.
According to Erin Hut, Communications Director for the city, this voluntary drill is an important opportunity for residents to practice evacuating safely and efficiently in a simulated wildfire scenario. The exact timing of the exercise will not be disclosed to participants in order to simulate the unpredictability of a real emergency.

The drill aims to familiarize residents with egress routes and safety protocols, as well as identify and address potential hazards or obstacles along evacuation paths. It also aims to empower the community to act quickly and confidently during a real emergency.
The event is being planned in coordination with various agencies including the Latah/Hangman neighborhood, City of Spokane Office of Emergency Management, Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Department, Spokane County Department of Emergency Management, and Washington State Patrol. However, it is important to note that this drill is resident-focused and not intended to test first responders or simulate a full wildfire response.
Residents are encouraged to participate in this exercise as it will help them prepare for any potential emergencies in the future.
