Spokane: Abor Day Celebration 2026

Spokane, Wash. ~ Spokane, Wash. - The city of Spokane is gearing up to celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Finch Arboretum. The event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a variety of activities for families and individuals to enjoy.

One of the main highlights of the event will be a brief ceremony at 1 p.m. with Mayor Lisa Brown to commemorate the city's 23rd year as a Tree City USA. The mayor will also be cutting the ribbon on the newly revitalized Touch and See Nature Trail at the Arboretum, which was made possible through generous donations and community support.

The event will offer something for everyone, including live music, tree care and environmental education, free seedlings, and more. It is free to attend and will take place rain or shine. However, organizers ask that only service animals be brought to the event as pets are not allowed in the arboretum.

One of the main attractions at this year's Arbor Day celebration will be the newly revitalized Touch and See Nature Trail. Originally designed in the 1970s, this trail has been renovated with new braille signs, guide ropes, and plants for visitors to explore.

In addition to this, Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors will also be present at the event to teach attendees how to turn yard and food waste into "black gold" for their gardens. Residents of Spokane County can also take home a free compost bin or countertop food waste container (limit one per household) provided by Washington State Department of Ecology. Free compost courtesy of Barr-Tech Composting will also be available (BYOB - bring your own bucket).

Other activities include tree climbing demonstrations by Bartlett Tree Experts who will also be giving out tree seedlings. The first 150 people in attendance can enjoy a free small coffee or hot cocoa as well as a free small kettle corn, thanks to Avista. There will also be live music and raffle prizes, as well as an arts and crafts project from the Corbin Art Center.

The Arbor Day celebration at the Finch Arboretum is presented by City of Spokane Parks & Recreation and Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors. The event is sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, with additional support from Avista and Barr-Tech Compost. The newly renovated Touch and See Nature Trail was made possible through the generosity of various organizations such as The Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, Spokane Central Lions Club, Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane, Lilac Services for the Blind, and Grid Mark Signs.

The John A. Finch Arboretum is known as Spokane's outdoor classroom for naturalists, horticulturists, and students of all ages. Located just off the Sunset Highway, the Arboretum spans 65 acres of park land along Garden Springs Creek. It boasts over 2,000 trees and shrubs representing more than 600 species and varieties from around the world.

City of Spokane Parks & Recreation takes care of nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres of park land. This includes manicured parks, natural lands, aquatic centers, golf courses, sports complexes, and the arboretum.
