~ The City of Tacoma's Public Works Department has been recognized for their outstanding work on the emergency repair of the Hylebos Bridge fender. The department was recently awarded the American Public Works Association (APWA) Washington Chapter Project of the Year Award, one of only 11 awards given statewide.
Interim Public Works Director Kurtis Kingsolver expressed his gratitude for receiving this prestigious award. "We are honored to receive the APWA Project of the Year award for the emergency repair of the Hylebos Bridge fender," he stated. "When the fender was struck, it created an immediate hazard in a highly utilized shipping lane serving our industrial core. We acted swiftly to ensure the waterway remained safe and open."
Kingsolver also acknowledged the partnership with the Public Works Board, whose emergency funding played a crucial role in successfully completing this unexpected infrastructure challenge. He described their support as a vital "hand up" in overcoming this obstacle.
