AACHEN, Germany & SAN DIEGO - Washingtoner -- Aachen, Germany and San Diego, California, April 14, 2026 – MainConcept, the global leader in professional video codec technology, today announced an expansion to its Multiview HEVC (MV-HEVC) Encoder SDK, which will support Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. The integration underscores MainConcept's established reputation for video codec quality and marks a significant milestone for creators building immersive video experiences.

MV-HEVC: The Codec Powering the Immersive Video Era
Multiview HEVC is an extension of the HEVC/H.265 standard, engineered specifically to encode the multiple synchronized video perspectives needed for Apple Immersive Video. Unlike traditional video compression, MV-HEVC must simultaneously manage synchronized streams while preserving inter-view prediction efficiency and maintaining visual fidelity across both eyes, a balance that demands sophisticated rate control, motion estimation, and perceptual optimization across the full encoding pipeline.

As creators embrace immersive video formats to support their storytelling needs, from independent filmmakers and virtual production studios to enterprise training and live event capture, MV-HEVC provides the technical foundation required to deliver high-fidelity immersive content at scale with seamless integration into any transcoding solution or service. The codec is purpose-built for the demands of next-generation storytelling, where every frame must withstand close viewing within an immersive environment.

At the core of the MainConcept MV-HEVC SDK is the company's HEVC encoder, built upon decades of optimization in compression efficiency, encoding speed, and visual quality. That foundation matters: the immersive video use case demands an encoder that performs under the full range of professional production conditions, and MainConcept's codec lineage delivers the scalability and fidelity that Apple Immersive Video requires.

Building Immersive Experiences with MainConcept
Blackmagic Design and Colorfront have been working with Apple and MainConcept to make this launch a reality. Blackmagic Design has integrated the MV-HEVC Encoder SDK to enable immersive video workflows within its post-production tools for Mac, giving editors and colorists a direct path from creative finishing to immersive delivery. Colorfront, known for its high-performance on-set and dailies solutions, is similarly leveraging the SDK to build immersive content pipelines that serve the most demanding production environments.

Together, these integrations reflect a growing ecosystem of professional tools built on MainConcept's encoding technology, giving creators at every level of the industry a reliable, interoperable path to immersive video production.

"Through dedicated collaboration with Apple, we have ensured that our MV-HEVC Encoder fulfills the highest quality requirements for Apple Immersive Video. This accomplishment reflects MainConcept's long-standing commitment to codec innovation and represents a pivotal progression in the relationship between our two organizations. Apple Immersive Video is the next frontier for creators, and we are proud to provide the technical foundation that allows them to deliver incredible experiences to Apple Vision Pro," said Deacon Johnson, President and CEO, MainConcept. "As the creator economy moves rapidly into immersive video, having reference-quality encoding at every stage of the workflow is not optional. It is essential."
