~ Spokane City Continues Pavement Preservation Project in Northwest Area
The pavement preservation project in northwest Spokane is well underway, with the latest development being the closure of W. Wellesley Ave. between Maple St. and Division St. on Wednesday, Aug. 13th. According to Kirstin Davis, Communications Manager for the city, this closure is necessary as crews will be applying a chip seal along this stretch of road, as well as conducting crack sealing and minor pavement repairs.
Drivers can expect W. Wellesley Ave. to be closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., with detours available via Garland Ave. or Francis Ave. for eastbound or westbound travel. Pedestrians may also experience sidewalk detours, while residents will still have access to their homes through local access streets.

In light of these disruptions, Davis urges drivers to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses impacted by the construction work. The city's construction webpage provides up-to-date information on any obstructions that may affect drivers within the city.
On a positive note, N. Freya St., which was previously closed between Garland Ave. and Wellesley Ave., has now been reopened after crews completed a major project in the area. This project involved replacing a 30-inch water transmission main in northeast Spokane, as well as improving sidewalks, installing stormwater management features, and reconstructing the street.
Some fast facts about the city's infrastructure were also shared by Davis, including the fact that there are over 1,100 miles of water pipes delivering up to 150 million gallons of water daily to 250,000 people, and that the City Street Department maintains over 2,100 lane miles and 6,800 intersections.
