Spokane Police Downtown Precinct (DTP) officers make two felony arrests solving several crimes, develop an arson suspect, and recover an expensive stolen bike, all within a span of about an hour.
Friday, May 14, a bike was stolen off the back of a car parked in front of a local bike shop in the downtown area. The owner of the shop contacted officers at the DTP and provided them pictures of the bike and the suspect. Within 20 – 30 minutes officers located and arrested the suspect and recovered the bike which he was trying to sell for $40. It was valued at $2,000. This same suspect was arrested the day prior for stealing a bike from the REI parking lot. He was booked into jail for 2nd degree theft.

About the same time, additional DTP officers spotted a burglary suspect wanted for burglarizing a prominent local business throughout the night. The suspect spent nearly 4 hours stacking and stashing property from the business, and vandalizing the place. There was evidence he urinated on the wall inside the business. DTP officers were able to capture the suspect, identify him, and book him into jail for 2nd degree burglary and 2nd degree malicious mischief. The suspect has a lengthy criminal history and is the suspect in numerous burglaries downtown and around Spokane.
Shortly after that arrest, DTP officers were contacted to investigate a 1st degree arson at a downtown apartment complex. The complex had excellent video footage of the suspect. Because DTP officers have extensive knowledge of chronic criminal offenders in the downtown area they were able to quickly identify the suspect and submit felony charges for 1st degree arson.
