~ Spokane, WA- On March 28, 2026, Spokane police officers were alerted by an individual at around 2:45 p.m. during the ongoing protests. The person reported that their flag had been stolen by a female, later identified as 18-year-old Lilian Cantu. The male was able to point out Cantu to the officers.
As the officers attempted to detain Cantu, they were met with resistance from a male, later identified as 32-year-old Christopher Hutto. Hutto assaulted one of the officers before both he and Cantu were taken into custody.
Following their arrests, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) officers left the area to allow for peaceful assembly and expression of first amendment rights by protesters and counter-protesters.

Cantu was charged with Theft in the first degree while Hutto was charged with Assault in the third degree. Both individuals were booked into Spokane County Jail.
During a search incident to arrest, officers discovered several items in their possession including large rocks, pepper spray, disposable face masks, and spray paint. Images related to these items were also released by SPD.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers and disruptions that can occur during protests and highlights the importance of maintaining peace and order in such situations.
