~ A high-speed hit and run incident in downtown Spokane on May 20th, 2024 has left two people injured and one man behind bars. According to the Spokane Police Department, the incident occurred just after 6pm at the intersection of Main and Washington.
Upon receiving a report of a vehicle collision, officers quickly responded to the scene. It was reported that two vehicles were involved in the crash and one had rolled over after impact. The driver of the at-fault vehicle attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by passers-by and restrained until law enforcement arrived.
Interestingly, it was later discovered that the citizens who detained the fleeing male were off-duty police officers from another jurisdiction. These officers, from the Pasco Police Department, were in Spokane for the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs Conference (WASPC).

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Joshua C. DeVleming, was then taken into custody by SPD. Upon further investigation, it was determined that DeVleming was impaired at the time of the collision.
The occupants of the victim vehicle sustained minor injuries and one person required assistance from Spokane Fire Department to exit their severely damaged car. They were transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.
DeVleming has been arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and vehicle hit and run with injury. Photos related to this incident have also been released by authorities.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and reckless driving. The Spokane Police Department urges everyone to drive responsibly and prioritize safety on the roads.
