~ On June 3rd, 2025, the Spokane Police Department responded to a call at 4000 South Cheney Spokane Road after a female reported being assaulted. According to the victim, she had been sprayed with bear spray or a similar chemical agent by a male she had been involved with while they were camping in a nearby wooded area.
Upon arrival, officers observed that the victim was showing signs of being affected by the spray. She also informed them that she had seen a shotgun in the suspect's tent a few days prior. Based on this information and the suspect's history, officers developed probable cause to arrest him for 3rd Degree Assault- DV.
Due to concerns about the suspect's possession of firearms and his history, members of the SPD SWAT team and Air Support Unit were called in to assist. However, after searching the area, they were unable to locate him.

The following day, on June 4th at around 6pm, the victim contacted 911 again to report that she had returned to the campsite to retrieve her belongings and had encountered the male suspect there. Officers immediately responded and with the help of a drone from the SPD Air Support Unit, they located the suspect in a wooded area near the campsite.
The officers closed in on the campsite and were able to take the male into custody without incident. Upon searching his campsite, they found several firearms that were linked to him.
Daniel J. Tillotson (44) was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for 3rd Degree Assault- DV and two counts of 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
