~ Spokane, WA - The City of Spokane is set to receive millions in state funding to address key local priorities, including public safety enhancements, housing, behavioral health and substance use disorder services, and community development. This announcement was made by Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the city.
According to Mayor Lisa Brown, this funding is crucial for the city and will help make significant progress on issues that are important to residents. She expressed her gratitude towards state legislators for advocating for the community's needs and delivering necessary investments despite a challenging budget situation.
Council President Betsy Wilkerson also expressed her appreciation towards fellow council members, the administration, dedicated staff, lobbyists, and legislators for their efforts in securing funding for the city's critical priorities. She specifically mentioned the overdue police training academy and sound mitigation study for East Central along the I-90 corridor as key investments that were made possible with everyone's support and insights.

The funding includes $750,000 for renovating and expanding the Spokane Police Department's primary training center under public safety enhancements. In terms of housing, $1 million will go towards supporting the St. John's Two senior housing project while $23 million will be allocated for operational costs of local housing and human services projects.
For behavioral health services, $3 million will be used to design and build a new crisis relief and sobering center next to the Spokane Regional Stabilization Center. Additionally, $2 million will continue supporting Maddie's Place.
Under community development initiatives, $1 million has been allocated for Fish Lake Trail improvements while $51.7 million will go towards completing the North Spokane Corridor project. A further $300,000 has been set aside to study noise abatement and sound mitigation in East Central related to the US 395 project.
These investments highlight the city's commitment to addressing critical issues such as public safety, housing affordability, behavioral health services, and community development. With this funding, Spokane is on its way to building a safer and more prosperous future for its residents.
