Spokane: Council to Hold Press Conference to Discuss Further Information on Department of Justice Grant

~ Spokane City Council members gathered at the Chase Gallery on Friday, January 23, 2026 to announce their acceptance of a grant from the Department of Justice's COPS Office. Council President Betsy Wilkerson, along with Council Members Zack Zappone, Kate Telis, and Kitty Klitzke, discussed the council's decision to participate in the FY25 COPS Hiring Program (CHP). The program aims to enhance community policing efforts and crime prevention within the Spokane Police Department. The press conference was held from 12:30 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. outside of Council Chambers at 808 W Spokane Falls Blvd. Wilkerson and her fellow council members expressed their excitement for this opportunity to improve public safety in their city.
