~ Spokane, WA- On Tuesday, crews from the City of Spokane's Code Enforcement Department and the Downtown Spokane Partnership Clean Team joined forces to clean up a recent act of vandalism on the statue of Abraham Lincoln in downtown Spokane. According to reports, paint was thrown on the statue, located at the corner of Monroe and Main.
Erin Hut, Director of Communications and Marketing for the city, stated that upon receiving reports of the vandalism, members of the Code Enforcement team quickly responded to assess the damage. The statue, which serves as a veterans memorial and was unveiled on Veteran's Day in 1930, is believed to be the only major statue of Lincoln in his commander's uniform.

The Spokane Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident and is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Check at 509.456.2233. In related news, photos of the damaged statue have been released by authorities in hopes of identifying those responsible for this senseless act.
