Sandesh Sadalge Sworn in as District 4 Tacoma City Council Member for First Full Term

~ Tacoma, WA- Sandesh Sadalge has officially been sworn in as the District 4 City Council Member by Speaker Laurie Jinkins for his first full term. This marks a historic moment as Sadalge becomes the first South Asian to serve on the Tacoma City Council.

Sadalge was initially appointed to the position in July 2024 and was later elected by voters in 2025. In his statement, he expressed his gratitude towards the residents of District 4 for placing their trust in him for the next four years. He also mentioned finding true meaning and fulfillment in his role over the past year and a half.

The newly sworn-in Council Member stated that his work will continue to be guided by the voices and stories of those he represents. He also looks forward to collaborating with his colleagues on the City Council to advance shared goals, strengthen communities, and improve quality of life across Tacoma.

Sadalge has set clear priorities for his term, including ensuring that the City of Tacoma operates within its legal authority to defend democracy and protect due process rights for all residents. He also aims to provide compassionate care for individuals experiencing homelessness and work with neighboring jurisdictions to address this issue. Additionally, he plans on championing policies that increase homeownership opportunities for all Tacomans and protecting youth and children through data-driven solutions.

Mayor Ibsen expressed her excitement at joining Council Member Sadalge as he begins another term. She highlighted Sadalge's perspective as a South Asian immigrant, which she believes is critical in connecting with multi-lingual and immigrant residents in District 4. The Mayor also praised Sadalge's leadership on expanding homeownership opportunities through his involvement in the Home in Tacoma conversations.

Sadalge resides in McKinley Hill Neighborhood with his wife Maya and their son. With over two decades of experience in finance and data analytics, he has also helped relaunch a small manufacturing business in Tacoma, which employed up to 25 individuals. His wife now runs a home-based craft business in the city.

Sadalge's involvement in community service began as a steering committee member for the City's award-winning McKinley Hill Neighborhood Plan. He later served as the District 4 representative on the City's Planning Commission. Currently, he is a member of the Council's Infrastructure Planning and Sustainability Committee and Government Performance and Finance Committee. He also serves on the executive board for Pierce County's Unified Regional Approach for Homelessness.

As Sadalge begins his first full term as District 4 City Council Member, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to serving his community. His unique perspective as a South Asian immigrant and his dedication to addressing important issues such as homelessness and youth violence make him an invaluable asset to the Tacoma City Council.
