~ In a formal ceremony held tonight, Anders Ibsen was sworn in as the new Mayor of Tacoma. With his new term officially beginning, Mayor Ibsen has outlined his priorities for the city, which include delivering measurable results, strengthening core services, and improving day-to-day conditions for residents.
One of Mayor Ibsen's main focuses for 2026 is to create a safer and more coordinated public safety system. He also plans to accelerate housing production and affordability at all levels, as well as address homelessness through a regional response approach. Additionally, he aims to grow the city's economy while investing in critical infrastructure and building a high-performing and accountable city organization.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him by Tacoma residents, Mayor Ibsen stated that his role comes with a clear mandate to focus on outcomes and make smart decisions that ensure essential services are delivered to the community. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with fellow council members, city staff, and regional partners in achieving progress across key priority areas.

At just 22 years old, Mayor Ibsen was elected to public office and has since served on the Pierce Conservation District Board of Supervisors before being elected to two terms on the Tacoma City Council representing District 1 from 2012-2019. During his time on the council, he played a crucial role in securing funding for public safety and improving budget transparency. He also helped advance important policies such as paid sick leave, public broadband expansion, electric vehicle incentives, and the Tacoma Anchor Network for local economic development.
As he begins his term as Mayor of Tacoma, Anders Ibsen is determined to continue serving his community and making a positive impact through his leadership and dedication to delivering results.
